Paramaribo, Suriname – Photos

May 3, 2007

I’m posting a ton of photos today. I’d love to hear what you think :) All photos are able to be enlarged by clicking :)

Lelydorp, Suriname

Countryside on the road to our house.

Hindu Temple down the road from our house.

My favorite plant in our yard. The Japanese plant them in their gardens to ward off evil spirts.

This was really hard to photograph and unfortunatly doesn’t have a larger version. The monkey bolted as soon as he saw my camera up and it was fairly dark out at a distance of about 100 feet or so. Hopefully I can get a better photo later.

Banana tree plant in our yard. The bananas here are awesome. :D

Some sort of Brazilian tree frog, it’s noisy as hell.

Some vultures were circling our yard for about an hour. I have no idea why.

A giant termite nest (about 4 feet high) which has been subleted to a swarm of giant bees. Yes, giant ones… They’re about 2-2.5 inches long!

I can’t remember the name of this butterfly, but it was awesome to see in person. It didn’t seem to mind having me up close at all.

One of about 15 lizards I see every morning on my back porch. They’re fast as hell when they run.

This is our new puppy Zero, he’s so tiny. :P

This is our other puppy. He had been abused so I had to take him even though we only wanted one puppy. I still haven’t decided on a name for him yet. If anyone comes up with one, that would be great.

Lucien, nuff said.

The lizard that is ALWAYS sitting on my tree. It never moves except if I get closer than 3 feet away, and even then he just moves to the other side of the tree.

Forgot the name of this bird. I’m horrible with names. They’re pretty though and play in the yard every morning.

I was just messing around in a small cafe downtown. :)

Lelydorp, Suriname – Sorry it seems to have screwed up while I was resizing it. :(

Do you know if adoption by foreigners is possible there? I work for an adoption agency and saw your comments about the many children in orphanages—but often foreigners can’t adopt these children even though they really need homes.
